Seat Removal
Modern Vespas
Most modern vespa seats are attached by two bolts located on the seat hinge.
To remove the seat simply open the seat, locate the two bolts on the seat hinge that hold the seat to the scooters frame, and remove. Have someone hold the seat while you remove it so that the seat doesn't fall and scratch up your paint.
Please note that the Piaggio MP3 has a pressure sensor in the seat and the wire needs to be disconnected from the seat before removal.
GT / GTS Backrest
Open the top case, remove the 4 screws that attach the rest to the top case.
LX/ET lock cylinder removal
To remove the lock cylinder ( only the metal part will need to be removed) simply pull out the metal retaining clip with your finger or a pair of pliers. The cylinder can now slide out of the black plastic housing.
Seat installation
Modern Vespas
Have someone hold the seat in the open position while you replace the bolts through the seats hinge and into the mounting holes in the scooters frame.
Tighten the bolts slightly. Slowly lower the seat to close it. If the seat closes easily, open the seat and tighten down the bolts. If the seat does not close easily, take a peek at the rear of the seat, in between the seat and the frame, and try and see if the hook on the seat needs to come to the left or right to make effortless contact with the latch in the scooters frame. Open the seat and shimmy the seat to the left or right, and try closing it again. Repeat these steps until the seat closes normally. Open the seat and tighten down the bolts.
Back Rests
Most backrests are attached using 4 screws. Open the case. Take one of the mounting screw and stick it through one of the mounting holes in the top case. With the screw sticking through the hole, take the backrest and line the screw up with the existing hole in the back rest. Do this with at least two of the screws. Tighten down the screws slightly, then fit the two remaining screws.
WARNING! most of the backrests have a plastic backing. Do not tighten down the screws to much or you will strip the holes out! Only tighten the screws so that they are snug. If you do strip out a hole. I would recommend going to a hardware store and buying slightly larger (widthwise) screws.
